AVIF to PNG Converter turns next-generation AVIF images into lossless PNG files. AVIF packs more pixel data into less space using the AV1 video codec, but support is still missing on older systems— Photoshop, MS Office, older browsers and many older Windows/Linux apps can't open AVIF directly.

Choose PNG when you need lossless quality (for editing or graphics work) or you need to preserve transparency. Output PNGs are bit-perfect from the decoded source but typically 4–10× larger than the AVIF — that's the cost of moving from advanced compression to a universally readable format.

No, and this is the most common misunderstanding about lossless formats. PNG preserves every pixel it is given, but the pixels it receives are whatever AVIF's lossy compression already produced. If the source AVIF has soft text edges or blotchy gradients, those are baked in and the PNG reproduces them exactly. Lossless means nothing further is lost, not that anything is recovered.

Expect 4–10× larger. AVIF uses modern lossy compression tuned for photographs; PNG stores every pixel losslessly. That size is the price of pixel-perfect quality and universal support. If the result is too big for an upload limit, run it through the Image Compressor afterwards.

Yes — if the AVIF has an alpha channel, it carries through into the PNG output unchanged.

AVIF can store 10-bit colour and HDR metadata; the conversion decodes through your browser's canvas, which works in 8-bit sRGB. So an HDR source comes out as a standard-range 8-bit PNG. For normal viewing and editing that's what you want, but keep the original if you need the wider range.
