About Image Resizer

Image Resizer changes the pixel dimensions of an image. Width and height are locked to the source aspect ratio by default — type a new width and the height adjusts to keep the image undistorted. Resampling uses the browser's high-quality canvas interpolation, so downscaled output stays visually clean.

Resizing changes dimensions; it isn't the same as compressing to a specific file size. If you need to hit a 100 KB target rather than a pixel target, use Image Compressor instead — it adjusts JPEG quality to fit a size goal. Upscaling beyond the source resolution will look soft, since the resizer can't invent detail that wasn't captured.

Common Questions

Pixels lets you set exact dimensions like 1920×1080. Percentage scales relative to the original — 50% halves both dimensions, 200% doubles them. Use percentage when you want to shrink proportionally without doing the math.

Yes for almost everything — unlocking it stretches or squashes the image. The only time to unlock is when you need to fit an exact non-matching size (e.g. forcing a portrait photo into a square avatar slot, where you'd usually want to crop instead).

Downscaling is essentially lossless visually — modern browsers use high-quality interpolation, so the result looks clean. Upscaling beyond the source resolution adds blur, since pixels are invented; for serious upscaling, use AI-based tools, not a browser resizer.

Keep the original format if you're unsure. Switch to JPG when you want a smaller file (lossy compression), PNG to preserve transparency, or WebP for the smallest file at comparable quality on modern browsers.
